LDL/HDL ratio is 2.7.  If he changes his diet to more fiber rich foods, how quickly can he lower his high numbers? He also has 109 Glucose.&lt;br /&gt;Answer:&lt;br /&gt;Well, if he changes and starts getting at least 25 g of fiber/day, I would give it a couple of months before testing again.  Fiber will help improve his fasting glucose (he is in the prediabetes range).  Exercise will help everything (at least 150 min/week).  If he is the type that will make these changes and stick with them, great.  If not, I'd recommend Bios Life Complete or Slim - they are great for lowering cholesterol, they are natural, clinically studied, etc.  Bios Life Complete is for improving cholesterol and Bios Life Slim lowers cholesterol with added benefit of weight loss. Plan out your meals for one or two weeks. Use a list and only shop off the list. Childhood Obesity?</title><content type='html'>The American Academy of Pediatrics says children at the age of eight who fail at dietary changes alone should take cholesterol lowering medication. I like to share tips that we know help people lose weight and maintain that weight loss.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;keep a food journal - this makes you aware of what and how much you are eating.  Work, but well worth the effort.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;move more (some people call this exercise, but some can't stand the word!)  Move as much as possible!  Burn more energy and feel better about yourself.  Think about it, exercise is one thing you can do that instantly makes you feel better about yourself.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;eat more fruits and vegetables (now, if you have diabetes, watch the fruit b/c it has carbohydrates - you should limit those at each meal).  Remember Five A Day?  Well, now they say up to 9 servings a day.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;If you eat bread, tortillas, pasta, rice (all those starches) - make sure you chose whole grains.  One benefit is the fiber which is so much more filling than the white versions of these products.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;eat breakfast and eat 3 meals/day (eating less puts your metabolism into what I call "starvation mode"&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;avoid eating out (overall, restaurant meals have more calories than if you cook at home).  If you do eat out, choose salads, lean protein, vegetables, etc.  Skip the bread!&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Plan ahead (make a list for the grocery store, take your lunch with you to work, have "back up" meals for when you don't feel like cooking.  My backup meal is often soup and grilled cheese with whole grain bread.  I have kids and that works well, it's fast.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Have someone to be accountable to - like a dietitian!&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Most importantly, be patient and don't forget your goals.  I had a patient that put small post-its on her mirror, one for each pound she wanted to lose.  As she lost a pound, she threw a post-it away. This person brought food records for me to review, exercised at least 5 times a week and limited their calorie intake to a level that surely would cause weight loss.  Well, it didn't.  For 2 months this person kept trying, and tried varying calorie levels to "trick their metabolism".  Well, when I introduced the idea of Bios Life Slim, they thought "what do I have to lose?".  They also have diabetes and liked the idea that it would stabilize their blood sugars.  Well, guess what?  First month they lost 3 lbs! Supportive, but not conclusive research has led the FDA to approve a health claim on food labels that contain these two types of omega-3 fatty acid: eiscosapentanioc acid (EPA) and docosanexaenoic acid (DHA).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Typical foods are oily fish (salmon, lake trout, tuna and herring). The American Heart Association recommends at least 2 servings per week of oily fish and the use of omega-3 supplements for patients with CHD (1 gram per day). People with high blood triglycerides (hypertriglyceridemia) may use 2 to 4 grams per day. Increased bleeding time and decreased platelet count has been shown with use of 4 grams per day. Talk with your primary healthcare provider if you are on medications that interfere with blood clotting.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some plant foods contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) which the body can convert to EPA. The recommended daily allowance (RDA) for dietary fiber is 25-35 grams/day.  Americans get an average of 12 grams/day.  We are horrible about this.  Why?  Well, you'll find fiber in carbohydrates (pasta, bread, rice, oats, fruits, vegetables, etc.) that have not been processed or refined.  For example, white rice is a refined product.  Brown rice is not.  Foods with white flour are refined b/c the flour is refined.  Foods with whole wheat flour are better b/c they are much less refined.  If we got the recommended 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables, we'd do much better at getting close to the 25 grams of fiber that is recommended.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Bios Life Slim has 3 grams of fiber per serving so it gives you an extra push towards the 25. Fat folds, don't you love em? No one really feels them but you - the leg rub as you walk or the fold that actually gets in the way when you lean forward. Or how about the fat itch? Call me crazy but fat itches sometimes....or you don't even have to touch the fold, it's there!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Seriously though, that extra fat around the waist is not a good thing. Leads to insulin resistance, some say metabolic syndrome, which can lead to diabetes. Diabetes affects 7% of the US population.......and a child born today has a 50% chance of developing diabetes. That is what scares the heck out of me. Unless we do something quick, gosh - I can't imagine the status of healthcare in 20-30 years.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, to prevent diabetes - lose weight, exercise (invisible insulin - I'll talk more later about this) and eat right. Eat right (quick summation) = complex carbohydrates, lean protein and heart healthy fats. More about that later too. I'm bloated (yay!) so I figure things will look even better in a couple of days.  Oh yea, I have PCOS -so weight loss doesn't come so easy (craving carbs and depression does though).  So, I'm pleased.  Someone told me, you don't even need to lose weight but I feel the fat - you know, the fat folds. How many of you know people that only eat food for nourishment (energy)? I know a couple - but really only that. You ask, "what do you feel like eating?" They answer, "I don't care". (they usually have a hollow leg)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Food Family - to be a member you must:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;Think of food at least 60% of your day&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;Eat one meal only to think about the next&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;Become disappointed when you don't have anything yummy to eat&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;Have a hard time deciding where to eat b/c there are soooo many good restaurants to choose from&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;Have dieted at least 20 times&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;Would rather die than diet&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;Eat for any emotion (bored = food, stressed = food, sad = food)&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;You get the point. Slim has helped me with my food cravings, has helped me lose weight but most importantly is helping many others do the same. No, it's not the answer to everything but it makes all those hard lifestyle changes so much easier. Weight loss is possible? The satiety is amazing so it's nice to know exactly how it works.  I've noticed that I'm not inclined to finish my plate AND my snacking and continous thoughts about food have decreased significantly.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Besides weight loss, slim will improve your cholesterol and blood sugars.  It's recommended that you weigh and measure before you start taking Slim because results happen quickly.  As a dietitian I think it is nice that the emphasis is placed on measurement because sometimes people work real hard and don't see any change in their weight while they can see the width of their waist get smaller.  And ask anyone - would you rather go down in your dress/pant size or lose 4 lbs? I have been using and recommending the new Bios Life Slim.  So far, I love the results and so do my family, friends and clients that are using it.  Anyway, I'm afraid I'm annoyingly enthusiastic about it - but I can't help it.  I've helped people lose weight and I know it takes an incredible amount of effort so I appreciate ANYTHING (that's legal and safe, that is) that helps people lose weight.  So many become frustrated with slow or no results and give up.  So...I continue to be more hopeful about this safe fiber/nutrient drink mix that some are calling magic powder.
